Dr. Patrick R. Nichols is a 1983 Biomedical Science graduate of Texas A&M University and a 1987 Doctoral graduate of the Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine. He performed general medicine for nine years in Austin prior to entering a two year residency in veterinary dermatology and allergy at Gulf Coast Dermatology & Allergy in Houston where his resident training was accredited by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology. He then gained further expertise by performing an additional year internship at the Animal Dermatology Clinic of Southern California before returning to Austin in 1999 to open the Animal Allergy and Dermatology Center of Central Texas.
Dr. Nichols' special areas of dermatological expertise include chronic allergic patients, Pseudomonas otitis, draining tracts/nodular dermatitis, and immune-mediated skin diseases. He gives scientific presentations to the general veterinary community, educating about dermatological issues. Dr. Nichols' research in the area of cutaneous vasculitis has been published in the textbook Small Animal Dermatology as well as in the International Journal of Veterinary Dermatology.
Dr. Nichols was born in East Texas where he lived a childhood full of family, faith, academics, and sports. His late father, whom everyone hailed as "Doc" Nichols, was a cornerstone of the community and the only veterinarian in all of Tyler county. Young Patrick grew up helping his father perform all sorts of veterinary procedures, from surgery and obstetrics to routine care of household pets and farm animals.
In addition to the great fulfillment he gains from helping pets lead healthier, happier lives, Dr. Nichols enjoys spending time with his wife Jennifer and sons, Luke and Blake, with whom he can often be found at the baseball fields. The family loves their retired drug dog, Jazz, and Charlie the cat.
